About The Kenton Tennis Club

Fifty-one years ago, on an evening in 1960, a meeting was held at no 9 Eastbourne Road, the home of Lex and Mien Impey. The Kenton on Sea Tennis Club, as it was then known, was subsequently founded. Founder members included the Impeys, Neville and Isobel Wilmot, Laurie and Greta Hill, with the sum total of the initial membership, a magnificent seven! These well-known family names are still prevalent in the club today!

One court was built {now court 2} and when funds were available, a second court {now court 1} was added.

Today the Kenton Tennis Club boasts outstanding clubhouse facilities and 7 well-maintained courts. Membership is at more than 130 – and still growing!

The courts are used almost every day during the week, but official club days are tuesday and saturday afternoons. Visitors are always welcome!

News items, February 2012

TARYN AND KYLA PURDON

Missing from our courts are Taryn and Kyla Purdon, who are now living in Port Elizabeth. Taryn has a job in PE, while Kyla has opted to finish her high school career at Pearson. PE’s gain is indeed our loss! But we know that we will see them both on the odd weekend, and definitely in the school holidays!

KATINKA LADEWIG

Sven and Katinka Ladewig will be migrating to Swaziland next month, where Sven has taken up a position with Cadbury’s. Over the years, both have put in sterling work during stints on the KTC committee…..And of course graced the courts with just such sterling friendly, good natured play!

Hoop alles gaan baie goed daar bo’. Ons gaan julle mis!

FAREWELL MESSAGE FROM HEATHER LEDWICK.

It is with sadness that I have tendered my resignation from the Tennis Club. Thank you to all who have made my life here so enjoyable. All the tournaments, league matches, social tennis, and social occasions with good company, have added a lot of substance and pleasure to my time over the last 4 years  in Kenton.

I am relocating back to PE, and although still here for a few weeks, am already missing Kenton. What a wonderful place this is! I know that I will visit from time to time!

See you then!
